All Downhill from Here
It’s never too early to be thinking about next ski season. This season I discovered the Elan Magfire 10 All Mountain Ski and it’s really good for all mountain skiing.

The titanium-reinforced ski is 168 cm long with a great shape to it (125/75/109). It's the widest
ski I've ever used. The Advanced Sidewall Construction makes it really thick in the center which lends itself
nicely to mono-skis since all the weight is on one ski. The integrated Fusion binding is a snap (literally) to adjust. Just flip the gear latch up and turn it to where you want it. The binding gives you the feeling that your bucket and your board are one piece.

Now the fun part. How did it handle the end of season conditions here in Montana? Spectacularly. I could feel the difference as soon as I got on it. The width of the ski made it float like a snowboard and the sidecuts made it the most responsive ski I've ever used. This ski is so stable, it's maneuverable by balance alone. The control is all you could ask for. The smallest shift in weight changes the direction and speed.

From packed powder to dust on crust to full slush and full crust, the ski took every change in stride. I felt like I was driving a full size luxury sedan with tons of power. An absolutely amazing ski.

Rack It Up
I can't say enough about the Thule Hullavator Canoe/Kayak Rack and neither can anyone else who sees them. Not only does it make your ride look awesome, it is an amazingly simple piece of equipment that can make paddling for people with disabilities much more accessible.

I love that it wasn't even designed with us in mind - that means it's affordable at just $499 for a set of two.
You may need to upgrade your racks as well, but not necessarily. I did, but only because I needed two sets and my factory rack was too thin.

The entire system was installed in two hours, including removing the old rack. Once in place and adjusted, it took about ten minutes to load up two boats and swing them up into position - which I did
myself. That alone makes this system invaluable since I used to have to find two people to load my boats - two people who could lift the boats and who could climb on top of my truck to put the pads on - and then I was never sure they were properly secured since I didn't do it myself.

Depending on your level of mobility level, you will either be able to use this system completely independently or with a bare minimum of help - just someone to (un)latch the cotter pins if you're a little shorter or to actually get the boats into the cradles. But compared to the alternative, I'm in paddling heaven. For more information call (800) 238-2388 or visit www.thuleracks.com.
